We had the great fortune to book a week at La Providence in September 2017 for a quick vacation with friends – and we are thrilled we did.
Sophie’s home is welcoming, elegant, and so very comfortable in a stunning and beautiful natural setting. Such wonderful attention to detail from the linens, kitchen and cooking tools, and a visual delight full of wonderful art, books, and furnishings that invite you to sink in and relax. It is a well loved and cared for jewel. If you tire of the interior (which is highly unlikely) the beauty of the location will keep you occupied with a feast for the senses.
Perched on a hillside above the sea – the views are captivating – and so peaceful watching the sailboats flow in and out of the small cove where they anchor for an afternoon of swimming or stay for a few days. A short (5 minute) walk to the beach with great hiking trails to explore the natural areas that surround the home – give you the feeling of being far removed from any city. The week passed far too quickly with afternoons by the pool, playing petanque or simply relaxing on the deck with a book, glass of wine and the beautiful Mediterranean view at your feet. Mix in the occasional trip to the charming village of Ramatuelle for the Sunday market or into St Tropez for a meal out and shopping – and you really have the best of all worlds at La Providence.
We look forward to returning and spending more time at Sophie’s beautiful home.

Our recent stay at La Providence was one of the most magical times in memory. The house is spectacularly sited just above the sea, with the most amazing views over the Mediterranean. Beautiful, private beaches are only a moment’s walk away, as are fantastic hiking trails along the rugged coast.
The house itself is gorgeous, yet supremely comfortable and welcoming. It felt as if we were visiting a friend’s beautiful seaside retreat. Whether we were lounging by the beautiful pool, or settled into one of the comfy couches for good conversation and a glass of wine, the trip was a non-stop pleasure. We also made very good use of the well-stocked kitchen, since all of us love to cook.
It’s very easy to see why Sophie and her family chose this spot for their home. It is truly a place to rest, recover and recharge from the grind of daily life in London. I hope that we will have many more memories made at La Providence in the future.

La Providence comprises a 4-bedroom Villa and 3-bedroom annexe, with a private swimming pool, right by the sea, in a very secluded setting within a Nature Reserve on the Provençal coast.
The Main Villa and the Annexe stand side-by-side on 500 square metres of land which slopes to the sea, just metres away. The Living Room, Kitchen and a large Dining/Seating Terrace of the Main Villa are on the first floor, accessed via a winding stone path from ground level, where all four bedrooms have French doors to the Pool Terrace. The Annexe can be accessed either from the road below the Main Villa or from its ground floor Terrace.
THE MAIN VILLA
Dining/Seating Terraces – with French Doors into the Villa, this spacious Terrace overlooks the Swimming Pool below and the sea beyond. There is a seating area with a large sun umbrella; a dining table seating 8, shaded by a canopy; and a gas-fired Weber barbecue. At the far end of the Terrace is a “boules” court and the “boules” are kept in the Villa. A second Terrace, also overlooking the sea, has comfortable bench seating and a dining table seating 6.
Sitting Room / Dining Room – comprising 2 separate seating areas, both with sofas and armchairs, a wood-burning fireplace, and a dining table seating 6. There’s a DVD player, and lots of DVD’s, plus a card table which doubles as a chess and backgammon board.
Kitchen - with impressive stone worktops, a 5-hob gas oven and a 3-hob electric oven, a microwave, a dishwasher, a Nespresso coffee machine, a toaster, a large fridge/freezer, double sinks etc.

Bedroom 1 – the Master Bedroom, with a 6-ft wide four-poster bed and French doors to the Pool Area. Ensuite Bathroom 1 has a bath, a walk-in shower, a washbasin and a W.C.
Bedroom 2 - with two 3’6’’ beds which can be pushed together, and French doors to the Pool Area. Ensuite Shower Room 1 has a walk-in shower, a washbasin and a W.C.
Bedroom 3 - with a 5-ft double bed, a full-length child’s single bed, and French doors to the Pool Area. Ensuite Shower Room 2 has a walk-in shower, a washbasin and a W.C.
Bedroom 4 with two 3’6’’ beds which can be pushed together, and French doors to the Pool Area. Ensuite Bathroom 2 has a bath and an overhead shower, a washbasin and a W.C.
Utility Room – with a second fridge/freezer, 2 washing machines and a tumble dryer, an ironing board and an iron.
Bedroom 5 - with two 3’6’’ single beds which can be pushed together, and French doors opening on to the front of the Villa. Ensuite Shower Room 3 has a walk-in shower and a washbasin.
Bedroom 6 - with two 3’6’’ beds which can be pushed together, and French doors opening onto the front of the Villa. Ensuite Shower Room 4 has a walk-in shower, a washbasin and W.C.
Separate W.C. with a washbasin.
Utility Room - with a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Double sinks, an iron and an ironing board.
Sitting Room/Dining Area - with sofas and armchairs, a round table seating 4, a DVD player and a radio. Sliding glass doors lead to Terraces on the west and south sides, the latter overlooking the sea, and equipped with comfortable cane armchairs.
The Kitchen – off the dining area, with a 4-hob gas cooker, an oven, a dishwasher, a large fridge/freezer, an ice-maker, a kettle, a toaster, double sinks etc. A door in the Kitchen leads to a Terrace at the rear of the Villa with a table seating 6.
Bedroom 7 - with two 3’6’’ single beds which can be pushed together, and a picture window looking towards the sea, plus a glass door opening onto the south-facing Terrace. Ensuite Bathroom 3 has a bathroom, a walk-in shower and a washbasin. Separate WC.
Garden & Grounds
La Providence stands in 500 square metres, right by the sea and within a protected Nature Reserve. Access is from a car park which is a dead-end and a well-kept secret amongst the few who find their way here to snorkel around the rocks, swim between sandy coves and relax on the sheltered, sandy beach.
The Villa and Annexe are totally quiet and secluded, surrounded by numerous shady trees, hedges, shrubs, flowerbeds and potted plants. The main gates have a security code, and a short drive ascends to the parking area beyond the wall, on the far side of the Swimming Pool.
The alarmed Swimming Pool is 27’ long and 24’6’’ wide with Roman steps into the shallow end, which is 3’6’’ and shelves to 8ft at the deep end. The Pool is surrounded by a number of comfortable sun beds, and a sun umbrella. It can be heated, if requested, at a cost of £120 per week.
La Providence is right on the coast, 600 metres from the seaside hamlet of Escalet. It’s 5 kms from the attractive hill-top village of Ramatuelle, with its good shopping facilities and restaurants. There's a hospital on the outskirts of Gassin (8 Kms). Both the towns of Cogolin and St Tropez are approximately 15 kms.
La Providence is about 50 kms from the nearest exit to the autoroute, 90 minutes’ drive from Toulon (Hyères) airport, and 2 hours from Nice airport. The super-fast train, the TGV, stops at Draguignan/Les Arcs (2 hours’ drive).
The Villa sleeps 8 in 4 double bedrooms, whilst the Annexe sleeps 6 in 3 double bedrooms.
The Villa can be rented on its own, in which case the Annexe will remain unoccupied.
Bed linen, bath, pool and beach towels are provided from free of charge and will be changed weekly.
All the Bedrooms have a safe.
There are overhead fans in all the Bedrooms in the Villa, and fans in the Bedrooms in the Annexe.
There are hairdryers in most Bathrooms.
The owner’s insurance policy requires that all outside doors and windows are closed and locked when leaving the property for the beach or elsewhere.
This is an all-weather property. There’s electric heating throughout both Villas.
A cook can probably be found for one or more dinners and/or lunches. A baby-sitter can also probably be found.
The cleaner is employed for 2 hours per day on 3 days a week, and is paid by the owner. Any additional hours can be agreed with her, and should be paid directly to her @ Euros 18 per hour.
The gardener and the pool maintenance man are paid by the owners.
There are masses of English-language books.
There’s a telephone in both Villas, together with WiFi internet connection.
There are 2 cots, both with bedding, and a high chair.
Things to See & Do near La Providence
There is a wine co-operative 3kms from the Villa at Ramatuelle. In addition, a number of local vineyards offer tastings and on-the-spot purchases.
There are 3 tennis courts at Escalet (600 metres). Booking details are in the Villa’s House Manual.
The beach of Escalet (600 metres) has a sports centre with table tennis and disco nights. From here can be hired catamarans, paddle boards, kayaks, plus outboard motor boats (provided the ‘driver’ has a valid international licence!). There’s also scuba diving, plus lessons if requested.
Bicycles and scooters can be hired in St Tropez.
There’s paint-balling near Port Grimaud
The House Manual contains information on when and where the local markets take place (including the exceptional twice-weekly market in St Tropez), local shops and their specialities (such as pottery and Provençal fabrics), nearby supermarkets, recommended restaurants in various price categories, and the many cultural and sporting events and activities taking place in the surrounding area.
There are several good 18-hole golf courses in the vicinity, the majority of which are listed in the House Manual. The nearest are Beauvallon and Ste Maxime, whilst St. Endréol and Barbaroux are outstanding. There’s mini golf near the Géant supermarket on the outskirts of Cogolin.
There are details in the House Manual of a nearby riding stable offering lessons, dressage and trekking in the surrounding hills.
There are wonderful walks in all directions.
St Tropez has a ferry service to Port Grimaud and Ste Maxime (thus avoiding the possibly crowded coastal roads). There's also a service from Le Lavandou to the Isles d'Hyères, of which Porquerolles is the largest island.
There’s a polo ground at Le Bourrian with a good restaurant.
There's also a nearby go-karting circuit.
There’s a nearby children’s adventure playground, whilst small children will enjoy the "little train" which runs through Ramatuelle as well as between Grimaud and Port Grimaud. Also popular with children is the tortoise sanctuary north of La Garde-Freinet, and the permanent funfair opposite the Géant supermarket on the outskirts of Cogolin.
There are many stunning villages in the vicinity which are well worth a visit, such as Grimaud and Port Grimaud (the latter being a modern take on Venice, its canals lined with houses and restaurants). Other attractive villages include Plan-de-la Tour, Gassin, Ramatuelle, Bormes-les-Mimosas and Collobrières, to name but a few.

The Main Villa and its Annexe (sleeping 6), or 14 guests in all £7,900 per week

N.B. July and August 2018 are not available.
If the Main Villa is rented on its own, the Annexe will remain closed.
Except by prior arrangement, all tenancies will be for a minimum of 1 week, and will begin and end on a Saturday.
Tenants should arrive as soon as possible after 4 pm on the commencement day, and must leave before 10 am on the agreed day of departure. They will be met on arrival.
A deposit of 25% of the rent will be payable to Anglo French Properties Ltd on signing the Rental Agreement, with the balance to be paid 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the tenancy.
A Booking and Security Deposit of £500 will also be payable to Anglo French Properties Ltd on signing this Rental Agreement. This will secure the booking, and will cover the cost of (a) telephone calls (other than local ones) made on the landline during the tenancy, (b) replacing/making good any losses, breakages and/or damages incurred during the rental, (c) pool heating, if requested, @ £120 per week and (d) any exceptional cleaning work which may be required at the end of the tenancy. This Deposit will be refunded (less any deductions as outlined above) within 8 weeks of the tenancy’s conclusion.
Tenants should advise Anglo French Properties Ltd of any breakages, losses and/or damages. This is in lieu of an inventory. Please switch off all outside lights before retiring at night.
